Forest School Themes

Stories & Music

This is an opportunity for pupils to be creative and use their imaginations to recreate stories.

They will explore the natural environment using all of their senses, listening to woodland sounds and recreating them using body percussion and things they find in the forest school site.

These activities will involve collaboration between pupils and create communication opportunities.

 

Pirates and Princesses 

This is an opportunity for pupils to be creative and use their imaginations, becoming pirates and princesses for a day.

They will use woodland materials and the woods to role-play and imagine what life would be like as a princess or pirate.

Pupils will make wands, hats, hooks, peg legs, crowns, pirate head gear, jewellery, telescopes and eye patches support their role-play.

They will take part in team building activities and learn about working together and team work.

They will learn about making things using natural materials and the importance of looking after the woodland site and leaving things as we find them.

 

Witches & Wizards 

This is an opportunity for pupils to be creative and use their imagination.

They will use woodland materials and the woods to role-play and to become witches and wizards for the day.

This session offers a range of activities to encourage working together and team work.

They will explore the natural materials using all of their senses.

It also provides opportunities to explore media and materials and create wands, potions, spider's webs and spells.

 

Red Indians

This session provides lots of creative opportunities where children are encouraged to explore media and materials to find out about customs, traditions and life styles of the red Indians.

This session offers a range of activities to encourage working together and team work.

Children will be able to make dream catchers and head dresses and particpate in other crafts using natural materials, which they will be able to take home with them or leave behind at the Forest School site for everyone to enjoy.

 

Woodland CSI

 
Activities will include stalking and adapting stalking skills to whatever is found on the woodland floor. Pupils will be encouraged to take part in team building activities and learn about working together.

Pupils will be able to explore and use their detective skills, looking for clues; examining and identifying footprints and making plaster casts.

They will also study tree identification and how to age trees.

During the afternoon session a team game of hunter and tracker will take place.

 

Meet the Knock-Knocks

 These sessions encourage working together to complete a task, shelter building and knot tying skills.

The pupils use their imaginations to create a Knock-Knock village and story to support their creations.

Pupils learn how to use natural materials to create a warm dry shelter.

They will learn how to listen to environmental sounds and develop tracking skills - both how to leave clues and how to interpret them.

 

I'm a Schoolie

This session is an opportunity for pupils to be creative and use their imagination.

They will experience a bush tucker trial and explore woodland objects using all of their senses.

They will play team games and learn how best to work together as a team.

Pupils will learn how to work as a team and collaborate to complete a task. They will also develop tracking and basic bushcraft skills.
